Bubonic Plague Reported in Oregon

The Oregon Department of Health has confirmed that an Oregon resident has been infected with the state’s first case of bubonic plague since 2015. Health officials say the person was likely infected by their symptomatic pet cat. All close contacts of the affected person and their pet have been contacted and provided medication to prevent illness. They also say there is little risk to the general public since the case was identified and treated in the early stages. No additional cases of plague have been detected or reported.
