Union Commissioners Pass First Reading of Zoning Changes

The Union County Board of Commissioners has passed the first reading of an ordinance which proposes changes to zoning laws to allow additional dwelling units in several rural zones. The ordinance would enable ADUs under conditional use review in the R-1, R-2, R-3, and R-4 zones. While some residents raised concerns about potential impacts on local infrastructure, traffic, and aesthetics, others argued that ADUs could help address housing shortages. The ordinance limits ADUs to 900 square feet and mandates that they cannot be used as short-term rentals. A second reading is scheduled for August 21st.
