As of the beginning of the new year, all workers in Oregon will be eligible for paid leave. In January, employees and employers will begin paying into the program under which workers will be able to apply for benefits beginning in September. That’s when paid leave of up to 12 weeks a year will become available in certain situations. Contributions will begin to be deducted from employee’s checks beginning on January 1st. Workers will pay in 60% and employers with 25 or more employees will pay 40%. That means a worker making $50,000 a year will contribute $300 annually and their employer will contribute $200.
