Union County Addressing Truancy

In Union County, a new ordinance aims to tackle school absenteeism by holding both students and their guardians accountable. The City of North Powder has already approved the ordinance, which requires final approval from the county commissioners. It would enforce measures such as fines and court-mandated services for non-compliance. It applies to public school students from kindergarten through 12th grade, excluding those in private or home schools. A specific timeline for the ordinance’s implementation is yet to be announced.
