Settlement Reached in Retaliation Case

A former 911 dispatcher in Salem has reached a $325,000 settlement with the city after alleging retaliation for seeking to reschedule a job promotion exam to attend a trial against her alleged rapist. The dispatcher requested a different date for the exam, as it coincided with her court appearance, but her bosses refused to accommodate her. As part of the settlement, Salem’s emergency dispatch managers will undergo training on victims’ rights, and the city will provide a neutral job reference for the former employee. The settlement awaits approval from the Salem City Council.
